TUTU SENGUPTA-TRADITIONAL ARTISAN IN BATIK PAINTING

Profile of Artist:

Mrs Tutu Sengupta is an expert in the ancient art of batik and tie and dye hand printing. She learned this beautiful art from “Nari Seva Sangh” in West Bengal which is a pioneer organization in this art form. The four decades of practice in this special art form has made Mrs. Tutu Sengupta, a master craftswoman in batik painting. Mrs. Tutu Sengupta uses wax and dyes to create visual colorful magic on fabric . “GuruShishya Parampara Scheme” is a workshop conducted by Mrs. Tutu Sengupta under the aegis of Office of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) under which she has trained several under privileged women. As a God gifted artisan Mrs. Tutu Sengupta has passed on this skill to other aspiring artists and continues to spread this historic traditional art form.
